This year's competition saw 16 contestants participating in a number of knockout rounds until only two were left: those two would play a head-to-head contest to see who would be crowned champion. The Nintendo World Championships tournament last took place 25 years ago (and, like last night's, proved its name wrong by only letting American gamers enter, but that's by the by). But what happened last night was four and a half hours of sheer grin-inducing bliss that ultimately reminded us why gaming, when it's done right, is still one of the most entertaining and wonderful hobbies on the planet. So there you have it, members, your 2015 champion, Mario Kart 64. But, like any champion, Mario Kart 64 saved its best for last, scoring its tournament best 9 points in the final round against Link and Navi, winning 9-4. It did not even convincingly beat its fourth round opponent, Star Fox 64, winning 7.5 to 4.0. Things got a lot tougher for Mario Kart 64 in the third round, where it just squeaked by Banjo Kazooie, 5.5 points to 4.5.
